Homemade Tile Cleaning Recipe - Floor Restore & MoreDo you yearn to ditch the expensive tile cleaner you buy from the store that never does a good job anyway? Ready to use something a bit more eco-friendly that is also safe for your small children and pets to be around?

If you are ready to make the switch from a commercial tile cleaning product to one that is homemade, this recipe is for you. Without compromising how clean your tile can be, you can make this easy tile cleaning product from ingredients you already have in your home. Not only does this recipe smell great, but it also works very well and is easy to make.

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup baking soda
  • 3 Tbs. salt
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  • 3 Tbs. dishwashing soap
  • 10 drops of essential oil such as eucalyptus or tea tree (optional)
  • 1 spray bottle

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, mix all ingredients together. Make sure your bowl is big enough (when the baking soda and vinegar combine, the solution will bubble and expand).
  2. Pour solution into a spray bottle.
  3. Shake solution and spray it directly onto the tile or onto a rag to clean the area. Scrub well, and then rinse with warm water.

Although adding essential oils is optional, there are many antibacterial and antiviral benefits to using them. For example, tea tree oil has anti-fungal properties that can combat mold growth.

Make sure you use all of your solution up quickly because if you are using a plastic water bottle, the vinegar will eat through it over time. If you still have a good amount of tile cleaning solution left when you are finished, you can transfer the solution into a glass container for storage and future use.
