Make Your Own Non-Toxic Tile Cleaner

Make Your Own Non-Toxic Tile Cleaner - My Floor RestoreSome of the longest-lasting flooring products are porcelain and ceramic tile. If properly installed and cared for, they will last a lifetime. Ceramic tile is also easily cleaned and maintained, so you never have to go out and buy toxic cleaners to make them shine. You can even make your own tile cleaner at home!

Tile can easily be cleaned with a little warm water, but sometimes it’s a good idea to give it a deeper clean. And what’s better than cleaning one room and having a lovely smell that fills your whole house?

Homemade Non-Toxic Tile Cleaner:

  • ¾ cup baking soda
  • ¼ cup lemon juice
  • 3 Tablespoons salt
  • 3 Tablespoons dishwashing liquid (Dawn is recommended, but any brand will work)
  • ½ cup vinegar
  • Optional: 10 drops essential oil of your choice (have fun with this! do you want your home to smell like oranges? peppermint? lavender?)

Mix all of the ingredients into a large glass bowl. Make sure that it is big enough– the baking soda and vinegar will bubble and expand when mixed together! This recipe is a little too thick for a spray bottle, so do your best to sprinkle it around your tile, or even soak a dishrag in the tile cleaner and spread it around that way. Scrub the tile and then rinse well with water and a wet cloth.

If it’s your grout that needs cleaning, you can make a simple scrub with baking soda and water. Use just enough water with the baking soda to create a paste, cover the tile grout lines and let sit for a few minutes. After the few minutes are up, scrub the tile grout and wipe clean with a wet cloth. Ta-da!
