DIY: Polish your Concrete Floor

Aug 3, 2021

Polishing concrete floors is an easy DIY if you’re up to the task! Are you a do-it-yourselfer? If so, this post is for you! We will walk you through the steps of polishing your floor and fill you in on the equipment you will need to get the job done.

Step 1: Prep the Floor

In order to get a solid polish your floor needs to be level and your cracks need to be filled. A lot of materials only require basic tools to apply to the concrete. Once the floor has been repaired, it will need to be cleaned. This requires the simple ingredients of a broom, mop and your time.

Step 2: The Grinder and Abrasive Pads

Now that your floor has been cleaned, it’s time to run a concrete grinder over it with the appropriate abrasive diamond pads. These pads come in a variety of grit sizes, make sure you get the size that will help your floor the most without damaging it. You will also want to ensure the grinder that you are renting is big enough to get the job done. Grinders and abrasive pads can often be rented together, see if you can get a demonstration done for you before renting your grinder.

Alternate Option: Hire a Professional!

If you are overwhelmed by all the steps for rentals and polishing your floor yourself, then maybe the better option for you would be hiring a professional.
